![]() Carter Brittany Kennels is located in the heart of South Georgia with emphasis placed on training for and competing with our dogs in field trials and continuing the tradition and pleasure of fine hunting dogs. We are located on 26 acres that our dogs have free range of during the day. At Carter Brittany Kennels we selectively breed our dogs for the betterment of the breed and typically have 1-2 litters per year. Our puppies are all very highly bred. All litters are champion sired with champion bloodlines and are carefully planned in order to enhance and amplify the qualities that are desirable in a hunting dog. We expect all of our puppies to be natural, instinctive hunters that have an ultra keen nose with excellent stamina and exhibit superior ground coverage. They are also expected to be highly intelligent with a classic conformation, intensely stylish with a strong bird drive in addition to being loving companions and family pets. ![]() ![]() ABOUT US: In brief, Carter Brittany Kennels is built upon the love of dogs and horses by licensed, practicing veterinarian Dr. Jim Carter and wife, Drew. When we were first married, Jim was a avid quail hunter and would spend every weekend hunting on local farms. We wanted to get involved in an activity that we both would enjoy but we didn't quite know if there was a hobby that could combine my love of horses with Jim's love of fine hunting dogs. We began researching NSTRA (National Shoot to Retrieve Association) trials and attended our first NSTRA trial in 2004. We placed 1st with Bullet's Renegade Miss Megan at one of the first couple of trials we attended and Jim was hooked. NSTRA wasn't very interesting for me though since I didn't have a dog that I could run, not to mention there isn't a word bad enough to describe my shooting skills and technique. Additionally, the only horseback riding was by the judges. We bred Megan in 2004 to NAFC/FC/AFC Walkers Gunner. We kept 3 of the puppies and began participating with the puppies in the fall of 2005 at AKC Brittany Club trials which allow both handlers and scouts as well as the gallery to ride horseback and you don't have to shoot the bird. Our dogs received multiple Puppy and Derby Stake placements in our first season. In 2006 we entered FC Peter Gunn who was still Derby age at the time in the Amature Gun Dog Stake at the Georgia Brittany Club Spring Trial and placed 2nd. There were enough dogs running in that stake to qualify FC Peter Gunn for the National Amateur Gun Dog Championship Trial in Ionia, Michigan for the year. We flew Pete up to Ionia and had a good run competing against several previous National Champions. Pete was in the top six at the 2006 National Amateur Gun Dog Championship and this was quite the honor. By then, my interest had grown and so was the number of dogs we owned and competed with. So, Carter Brittany Kennels came to life and is ever growing. I now have my own dogs that I run in horseback field trials and the only thing I have to shoot is a blank pistol - much safer for everyone. Jim is now a licensed AKC registered Field Trial Judge and was provided the honor of being asked to head the 2008 National Brittany Amateur Field Trial Committee. We attend and compete in every trial we have an opportunity to in Georgia and the surrounding southern States. We also train our own dogs without the help of professional trainers which makes us extremely proud of their accomplishments. | Return Home | Brittany Males | Brittany Females | Puppies | Brittany Information | Contact Us | Our Horses | |
