Newborn Litters

Once puppies have reached an age of 2-3 weeks old, we will post photos of the newborns here. We kindly ask for your patience between the time of birth and until we are able to post photos. If you have submitted an application and have elected to move forward with one of the posted newborn litters that have whelped, once we are able to post photos, you may make the decision to remain on your initial litter, change to a different litter, or roll to a future litter instead. We will be fully committed to working with you until you have found the puppy you are ready to bring into your home.

How We Raise Our Puppies Ensures an Easy Transition To Their New Home

Providing exceptional love, care, and support through each milestone as puppies grow is the hallmark of our breeding program.   It is extremely important that puppies are well socialized and are exposed to the joys of bonding with people from the very start.   Our socialization program is veterinarian lead to ensure they are fully prepared to mentally handle the transition of leaving our family and joining yours.

As a veterinarian owned/operated kennel, we take great pride in ensuring our puppies get the very best start to life by beginning socialization of our puppies on the day of their birth.  We build a strong bond with every single puppy prior to their ears and eyes opening so they experience the tenderness, love, and care the human touch provides before they can see and hear us.  We earn their affection and trust in the early developmental stages through bottle feeding once a day so they are drawn to us in the same way they are drawn to their mother through feeding.  We get them accustomed to being held in our arms, tummy up, to communicate human dominance, rub their feet so they are not touchy in this area as they grow to make nail trims easy as they mature, and gently open and close their mouths so any future medication dosage is not a battle to be won. We massage their ears to make cleaning time simple and efficient and talk to them to get them used to our voices.  At approximately 2 weeks old, their eyes and ears finally open and their hearing and vision becomes sharper with every passing day.  At 3.5 weeks old, their teeth begin emerging and they slowly learn to stand and walk. We begin them on a premium quality food at this age as nutrition is the foundation of a healthy dog.  As they continue to grow we expand their horizons and introduce them to a wide variety of sounds and situations so they transition easily to their new homes when the time comes.  Puppies are released to their new homes between the 7.5-8.5 week old mark, which is determined by the age of which the litter hits specific milestones and also when the mother is fully ready to ween them.  We always let nature take it's natural course and we will not release puppies until the mother has decided it is officially time for her babies to be without her.  Together with the mother, we will make this determination ourselves and we will not be influenced by new owner's schedule demands.  It is important that we listen to the mother and follow the mother's lead and not the requests of the new families.  When the mother is ready to ween them, she no longer requests to visit them and no longer allows them to nurse.  Puppies are introduced to the basics of crate training, bathing, nail trims, and how to heel (stay with us when walking) in preparation for your preference of collar/leash or harness training.  At the time of release, puppies will be nearing the age to be mentally ready for the early stages of puppy training.  Please keep in mind that our voices and our environment is completely different than your voice and your home and environment.  When taking a new puppy home, you will need to allow time for the puppy to adapt to their new surroundings and be patient and understanding with them as they have never met you and have never been in or around your home.  To them, you will be a completely new person that they have never seen, heard, touched, or licked.  They have only been with us at our home and we are "their people." You will need to show them how you wish for them to behave as they slowly learn your voice and the commands you are wishing to teach them or remind them of that they learned while they were with us.

Pedigree is extremely important, no matter what your aspirations are for your puppy.  Our litter pedigrees are full of champions in the early generations of the puppies which helps guarantee their soundness, as people do not spend vast amounts of money to campaign dogs in events that aren't healthy or have difficulty learning.  We have planned this exceptionally high quality litter with expectations of producing highly versatile puppies that will succeed in any environment and activity.  Our focus is on producing elite quality hunting dogs that heavily bond with their humans, are incredibly intelligent, highly sensible, biddable, and are able to adjust their energy level to different situations.  Our puppies are extremely easy to train with an eagerness to learn which makes everything from housebreaking to learning specific commands fun for all.  These important features are the foundation of a superior quality dog that will succeed and be satisfied doing whatever their people enjoy doing - whether it is training for hunting competitions or companion plantation hunting, agility events, conformation events, service/therapy animal needs, or a constant, well-mannered companion for neighborhood walks, snuggling by the fire, or catching up on your favorite television show on the sofa.  Of all the hundreds of different dog breeds on the planet, we can't imagine owning any other breed than the Brittany for our family.  One dog can meet the individual needs of each and every one of us and it is remarkable how versatile they are.

We strive to find the right family for each puppy, which includes an evaluation of the temperament, attitude and energy level as well as physical qualities to ensure the best home for each puppy.  Puppies come with a complete 26 month health guarantee against congenital genetic defects. Our sires and dams undergo breed specific health tests that they must meet and/or exceed prior producing a litter of puppies.  All dewclaws will be removed, tails will be docked, and they will be up to date on all vaccinations and dewormer.  We do ship puppies within the continental United States via airline at the age of 8 weeks old.  Prices do vary depending on the airline used.  We generally fly puppies out of the Atlanta, GA (ATL) airport and generally are able to secure direct flights to most locations.  If we are able to use Delta or American Airlines, all-inclusive pricing for airline transfers are $525.00 which includes booking, health certificate, airline approved travel kennel, food and water bowls, plus the airfare.   We are also able to arrange for ground shipping for door-to-door transportation.  Ground shipping costs will vary by location.

When you are ready to take the next step and move forward with our kennel for your next four-legged family member, we kindly ask that you compete the puppy questionnaire/application that can be accessed using the link above or through the contact us drop down menu.  If you have difficulties locating the application please feel free to contact us for assistance.  We do accept early deposits in the amount of $100 to be added to the reservation list for first selections upon the birth of the litter.  We also accept deposits in the amount of $250 (or) up to 1/3rd of the total puppy cost for available puppies that have been born until they are ready for homes.  We will respond to your puppy questionnaire/application with complete deposit details and additional information and details should you be approved for purchase.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

QUESTION:  The puppy looks fat. Why does it look fat? Is it always going to be fat?

ANSWER:  Have you ever heard the saying that the camera adds 10lbs? That is true for puppies. too.  Animals on video or in pictures always look more plump than they look in person. Additionally, puppies are actually fed here.  We are a veterinarian owned kennel. We feed our puppies and purposely ensure they are a healthy body weight before going to their new homes. When they leave our kennel, they will drop weight immediately due to home change and stress which causes them to not eat. A healthy weight here before they leave ensures they over the home change hump and come out of it still healthy.  Skinny or underweight puppies have a higher likelyhood of becoming sick due to the stress of a home change.  Skinny puppies are ugly, in our opinion, and are an indication of the breeder not feeding them like they should or possibly indicative of the puppy being sick or having another condition that may affect weight - like having parasites.  All puppies naturally start leaning up around the age of 12-16 weeks old as they mature. Human kids are generally pudgy for the first 1-2 years (a least ours were) and then naturally lean up as they transition to the toddler stage.  Like human kids, young puppies less than 12 weeks old are pudgy, too, while in our care, and then lean up naturally.  Being plump while here while still in the young puppy stage is a good thing.  YES! They will ALL lean up.  You can also manually control food intake by feeding the puppy less food to reduce the weight if you want to speed up the process of leaning up if the puppy's weight bothers you when you take the puppy home.  HOWEVER! PUPPIES IN OUR CARE WILL BE PUDGY ON PURPOSE while they are under our care.

QUESTION: That puppy doesn't look as big or as active as some of the other puppies. What's wrong with it?

ANSWER: Is the puppy you are comparing to the same age as the other puppy you are referring to?  Are the videos of some puppies new? We don't always do them at the same time. Huge strides are made EACH week between the ages of 5-12 weeks old.  A 5 week old puppy and an 8 week old puppy are not going to be the same size, have the same confidence, or have the same activty level. Older puppies are more confident and bigger and more active than younger puppies. That's simply how it works. Consider the differences between a kindergarten student and a 4th grade student.  Puppies will only get bolder, more confident, more active, and prettier as the transition from the newborn/toddler phase.  Generally, if you like a 5 week old puppy, you are going to LOVE that same puppy at 8+ weeks old and older.  Also consider other circumstances. Not all videos are done at the same time. Colder or hotter weather affects how puppies respond.  Are our kids tired of running around in the yard with the puppies? Am I tired after working all day and really just want to go lay down inside instead of being outside for several more hours shooting and editing and uploading videos? If we, the people aspect, are not feeling the excitement of the moment, the puppies won't look as active because our kids aren't as active, and I'm over there dying with the camera, and neither one of these things encourange the puppies to be more active.  Did I have to wake a puppy up from a nap to take the video? If you are wanting a very active puppy or a puppy that isn't as active, ask us which puppies would be a good fit for you. Be truthful in the application so we can learn more about your needs and preferences to enable us to offer puppies that will be a great fit for your family.

QUESTION: I only want a puppy with blue eyes. Do your puppies have blue eyes?

ANSWER:  As long as you pick the puppy up prior to it being 8-9 weeks old, you will have a blue eyed puppy as all puppies are born without pigment in their eyes. Eyes without pigment are blue. As puppies age, the pigments in the eye slowly form and they change from blue to hazel or amber. Blue eyes are short term only in the brittany breed. IT WILL NOT LAST.  If you want blue eyes and the color of your new dog's eyes is what is most important to you  - go get a husky or an austrailian shepherd or maybe veture over to cats and get a Ragdoll. You will never have a full-blooded brittany with blue eyes as an adult. If you do, something is wrong with it.

QUESTION: I really like one of the puppies you have but I want the puppy to have more orange fur or more liver fur than it has right now. Will the puppy grow more big spots?

ANSWER: No, the predominate markings of the puppy are set.  They do have little freckles that may appear between 5-9 weeks old, but the larger spots will not change and the puppy will not "grow" more big spots. As puppies grow, the white does retract some and the orange widens, but you will not grow more spots.

QUESTION: I don't want to have to train my puppy to respond to basic commands. Can you keep it and train it for me and allow me to pick the puppy up after basic command training is complete?

ANSWER:  We do not offer this service and encourage you to really think about why you want a puppy. We don't think you need a puppy right now if you are asking us this question. If you are requesting hunting training (6 months plus in age), We do have trainers that we can place you in contact with if you prefer to not do the work yourself once the puppy reaches a trainable hunting age. Hunting traning is way beyond basic training and you will need to do your ground work at home before taking your puppy to hunting traning if you don't want to do it yourself. If you need assistance with simple basic training (walking on a leash, get in the crate on command, etc) we encourage you to find online traning vidoes and find one that aligns with a method that you are comfortable with. Simply google "how to teach my puppy to "X" on command," for example. If you still prefer to pay someone for basic training, speak with your local veterinarian or dog groups in your area. We assure you, you are completely able to teach your dog how to do things. An animal will always respond best to those that actually trained the animal. Everyone in the house needs to do the work if everyone wants the dog to do the command for each individual person. Dogs know SOUNDS, not words. Each individual person SOUNDS different.

QUESTION: Why is there one puppy that is left out of this litter? Why is this puppy still available? Why didn't anyone purchase it? What's wrong with it?

ANSWER:  This question makes ZERO sense to us. Seriously, it's like asking why did God decide to paint the sky blue and the grass green? We don't always understand why people pick one puppy over another puppy, but THEIR choices DO NOT affect the quality of puppies that ARE available at this moment.  The better questions is, do you like the puppy?  It's up to date on age appropriate veterinary care, vaccinations and preventative treatments. The puppy has an outstanding pedigree that is full of some of the top ranking and most decorated dogs in breed history.  The puppy has simply been loved by us a little longer than usual. As they age, we also start working on basic life skills, like walking on a leash. If you choose an older puppy, you're simply getting a head start on training and veterinary visits while also getting a very well socialized puppy that has some basic training underneath it's belt. Cheaper puppies generally sale first and the pick of the litter quality puppies tend to stay longer due to pricing. Older puppies that remain in our care have simply been loved by us a little longer than usual. Why do people think something is wrong if there is a puppy over 8 weeks old on the website or there is only one puppy left in a litter? We have absolutely no clue why people think this way because it makes ABSOLUTLEY no sense to us. We could have the most beautiful brittany to have graced the earth available for purchase, but if it is the last puppy in a litter, people won't purchase it. Is there something wrong with the dog? No, there is nothing wrong with the dog - there is something wrong with the human's though process.

QUESTION: Do your dogs hunt? Are they trainable? Why does a high end pedigree matter if I don't plan to hunt?

ANSWER: We encourage you to read the information on the home page as well as review the information on our adult dogs and other website details. The pedigrees detail the accomlishements of the dogs in the pedigree to learn more about the background of our puppies.  We are a veterinarian owned kennel and our dogs are healthy and fully up to date on all vaccines and preventatives. We are the breeder and trainer of multiple nationally awarded dogs, such as NGDC NAGDC FC AFC Peter Gunn who was the first dog in breed history to have obtained the National Gun Dog Championship title, the National Amateur Gun Dog Championship Title, the National Magnum's Masked Man award as well as the National Tri-Tronic's (now Garmin) shooting dog of the year award.  In laymans terms, those awards means he out hunted/performed all other dogs in the country. All of our litters have pedigrees full of national champions and/or hall of fame inducted hunting dogs on both the sire and dam side.  Why are national titles important? National titles are important because they designate the very best of the best of the brittany breed. To even have a chance at a national title, the dog has to be trainable, able to focus, smart, and sensible. Those traits are genetically linked. The reason you see champion after champion in the pedigree is because champions produce offspring that can have what it takes to be a champion. So you don't want to compete but just want to have a hunting dog? It's a whole lot more fun if you have a dog that is bred to hunt with an incredibly strong hunting background as seen in litters with pedigrees full of champions. All of our sires and the majority of our dams are national champion or hall of fame inductee sired at the FRONT of the pedigree...not just the great great great grandfather or grandmother as most kennels brag about. Did you ever meet your great, great, great, grandparents?  How much influence do you think ONE out of 16 pairs (32 total) of your great, great, great grandparents has over YOUR accomplishments?  Likely, not very much at all.  This is why you want to see national champions at the FRONT of the pedigree. Yes, our dogs hunt and have hunted well enough to earn our kennel multiple nationally awarded hunting dogs.  We are involved in AKC field events.  Jim served as president of the Georgia Brittany Club chapter of the American Kennel Club's (AKC) American Brittany Club.  He has served as 4th vice-president of the American Brittany Club. We own a 1300 acre plantation that we host AKC field events at during competition season. Our oldest son was awarded junior handler of the year by the American Brittany Club in 2020. Yes, the dogs hunt and do it very well and we enjoy it as a family sport. If you don't hunt, this translates to having a dog that is intelligent enough to be trained to do things you are interested in - even if its just teaching them to heel and stay with you while jogging.  The brittany is very versatile and is so much more than just a hunting dog which is why we love this breed so much. At the foundation, it is important to have an intelligent dog that is sensible and highly trainable no matter what activity you plan to do with your puppy as it grows. The high end titles throughout all generations of the pedigree are evidence that the puppies should have extreme intelligence and can focus as well as withstand the high pressures of training for the activities that interest you and your family. Having a dog with intelligence will make life easier...even if its just housebreaking. We can not, however, magically make a human able to train a dog. Most training issues are from a lack of human ability to effectively communicate and train the dog. Humans are the issue. People are either proactive or inactive - there are no inbetweens. We either get photos and videos from proud new owners a few weeks after pickup with a new puppy performing basic commands and even performing in the field from HUMANS who clearly know what they are doing and the dog is already responding to basic commands, potty training OR, we get the complainers, who think the dog is the problem, where they have contacted trainers, behavioral specialists, and emotional support trainers, and Doggie VooDoo specialists and Puppy Psychics and inner spiritialologists to help keep a 8-12 WEEK OLD PUPPY from doing things that puppies do normaly when there has been zero HUMAN discipline or training. NO HUMAN DISCIPLINE equals a wild child - just like with children. The kids that are disrupting the class and throwing pencils and wont do their work have the same problem as the puppies - no leader and no discipline to help teach them how to act to not get into trouble. Go watch reruns of Jerry Springer to see how this manifests in adulthood. The puppy weighs less than 12lbs. Read that again. THE PUPPY WEIGHS LESS THAN 12lbs. Why would you let something that weighs the amount of a large sack of bread flour rule over you and your household. THE HUMAN IS THE ISSUE from having no clue how to effectively communicate and properly discipline the puppy in a way the puppy understands. A puppy has a very simple thought process. They don't have human thought processes or emotions. DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE. DOGS ARE ANIMALS. For example, multiple people have contacted us because they are standing up on a sofa because the an EIGHT/NINE WEEK OLD puppy is barking at them from the floor and they are scared of the puppy. Puppies play by barking and pouncing and biting each other as they grow up. It is natural dog behaviour to do this. You don't need to call the pet voodoo service to diagnosis this. It's normal puppy behavior. You have to teach the dog how to act around YOU. With a human family, you have to teach them how to live in a human household instead of with their siblings with a 4 legged mother ruling over them who communicates with them VERY effectively by growling, barking, and biting them if they won't behave. BRITTANYS ARE NOT AN AGRESSIVE BREED. Either prepare yourself for training and effectively disciplining a puppy before you take it home or get a STUFFED ANIMAL. EVEN SOME STUFFED ANIMALS HAVE A BARK FEATURE. A puppy without any training or discipline will act like a puppy without training or discipline OF ANY BREED! NOT JUST THE BRITTANY. This is why you take home a well behaved puppy. We taught it how to behave respectfully towards us. If after a few days of taking the puppy home, the puppy becomes a puppy that is no longer well behaved...the HUMAN IS THE ISSUE! READ AGAIN - THE HUMAN IS THE ISSUE. DO NOT CALL US FROM THE TOP OF YOUR SOFA BECAUSE YOUR NEW 8 WEEK OLD 7LB PUPPY HAS BEEN BARKING AT YOU AND YOU ARE SCARED. SERIOUSLY? IT IS 8lbs OF PUPPY - YOU ARE 100-250lbs PLUS. CALLING US FROM THE TOP OF YOUR SOFA IS COMPLETELY AND TOTALLY RIDICULOUS! PREPARE FOR TRAINING AND DISCIPLINE EFFECTIVELY BEFORE GETTING ANY BREED OF PUPPY! TIME OUT DOESN'T WORK ON DOGS. DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE. DOGS WILL NEVER BE HUMAN AND HAVE THE MENTAL COMPLEXITIES OF THE HUMANS THOUGHT PROCESS. THIS IS WHY WE LIVE IN HOUSES AND DRIVE CARS AND THEY DON'T. YOU MAY NEED TO HEAR THIS - DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE.

QUESTION: The puppy I am most interested in is more expensive than the discounted older puppies. Can I purchase the younger puppy I am most interested in for the same price as the discounted puppy I'm not interested in? I bought a dog from you 12 years ago and your price has went up. Can I get a discount? I don't want to spend that much on a puppy - I'll bring $500 less than your asking price in cash this weekend for pickup and you should be thrilled with that! Sound like a plan? Let's schedule it. I have a kennel too and want to add your bloodlines so can I get a professional discount since we are doing the same thing?

Answer: No....No. No. and NO. Please select a puppy within a price range that fits your personal budget. We have prices posted to our website to let you know how much money needs to be provided to us if you want to take the puppy home. Reduced pricing for without breeding rights is at our descretion and you may ask if reduced pricing is available. If you want an older puppy that is discounted for any reason but you do want breeding rights, you will need to pay the initial full price. We have worked over 2 decades with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears and a heck of a financial setback and a little luck to put all those titles and national awards on our competition string...you aren't going to get to take advantage of that and get breeding rights for a reduced price. NO!

QUESTION: Are all of the females on the site that have litters yours? I'm not seeing some of the mothers under the female section. What about the puppies? Are they yours, too? And the sires? What about them?

Answer: Why would we waste our time and/or want to advertise some other kennel's puppies? We are veterinarian owned and the owner/breeder/trainer of mutliple nationally awarded dogs. Our pedigrees generally can't be matched elsewhere and are stacked with national champions in the first 3 generations. We are dog snobs thru and thru and we aren't wasting our time to create or offer some other kennel's dogs they can't sell. We don't have time for that or the want to do that. WE have REAL jobs and it isn't raising puppies. WE own a very busy veterinary hospital AND a 1300 acre plantation AND a veterinary odor eliminating company in ADDITION TO THIS KENNEL. THIS KENNEL is for our ENJOYMENT and to produce our next champion titled dog. For US - its a HOBBY. Maybe some low end backyard dog kennels pick up dogs that don't sell from other kennels and market them but WE DON'T! We are VETERINARIAN owned and have standards that are too high for most people to even think about meeting. Other kennels try to make you think they are as good as us, copy our website, copy our purchase emails, and try their best to BE US....sometimes steal our pictures and all other kinds of copyright infringments but they are NOT us. THE DOGS ARE OUR DOGS. THE PUPPIES ARE OUR PUPPIES. This is CARTER BRITTANY KENNELS and we only have litters with dogs that are owned by CARTER BRITTANY KENNELS. The puppies - they are OUR PUPPIES. They all live at OUR HOME. WE birth them WE feed them WE vaccinate them WE raise them WE train them WE buy their food WE buy preventative medications WE provided their veterinary care.  WE buy their bedding WE clean up after them multiple times a day WE socialize them WE make the videos in OUR FLOWER GARDENS WITH PLANTS WE PLANTED  at OUR HOUSE at OUR PROPERTY that WE OWN with OUR KIDS.  WE manage our website. WE take our own photos AND WE take our own videos. WE answer your questions and emails. We DON'T share dogs with other kennels! If we keep puppies from our litters, they are the best ones of the litter so we can ensure we continue to raise the best. We DON'T post litters of dogs that aren't ours from outside kennels. WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THAT AND DON'T WANT TO MAKE TIME FOR THAT. ANY puppy and ANY dog posted is OURS. THIS IS NOT SOME DOG YARD SELL WHERE WE PICKED UP TRASH DOGS FROM OTHER KENNELS TO SALE. Whatever dog you see on this website is OUR dog. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. YES, ALL OF THEM. EACH SINGLE ONE REGARDLSS OF AGE. READ THAT AGAIN - ANY DOG YOU SEE IS OUR DOG. The female drop down menu is our collection of titled competition females that have achieved champion status and national awards and it is our BRAG column. Other females are posted as mothers in the litter section as they are bred. OK? THANK YOU!
